Paul Jouve, familiar with wild animals, offers us here a characteristic painting of his animal works in the interwar period. With a very tight horizontal framing, the anatomy of the fawn is particularly highlighted, its power accentuated.
This work, done at the beginning of 1925, was exhibited at the Galerie Haussmann in the spring, as part of an exhibition devoted to the artist.
It was then kept in Jouve's studio, who exhibited it in 1955 at the Musée de la France d'Outre-mer before selling it to the father of its current owner.
