Provenance :
Private collection, France

History:
Edition of 50 copies and a few rare deluxe copies on parchment or basan reserved for the artist.
The model of this etching dates from 1917, when Jouve was in Salonika in the Eastern Army and managed to paint and draw, he took for model the characteristic buffalos of this region.
Our engraving is drawn on basane, that is to say a very supple skin, fine grain without any defect. The background of the composition is treated with gold leaf and mosaic. These luxury proofs whose realization was of a particularly high cost are very rare and the one we present is one of the only two artist's proofs realized on basane with a mosaic gold background.
