The Alexis Pentcheff gallery is delighted to announce its forthcoming exhibition at Palm Beach, a very special place, located at the heart of the French Riviera in Cannes. From the first stage of this project, it has been an obvious choice to present the work of René Gruau - emblematic illustrator and instigator of French elegance in the 20th century. From May 2, an exclusive selection of twenty iconic works by René Gruau created as part of its cabaret projects will be presented at the Palm Beach, next to Medusa, a fabulous cabaret restaurant. Visitors will be invited to uncover this exhibition in a unique experience and a privileged atmosphere steeped in history.

French-Italian dandy, René Gruau illustrated fashion design for the most beautiful Haute Couture houses such as Dior, Balenciaga, Chanel, Piguet, Jacques Fath, Givenchy. The artist captured the versatile world of fashion and produced an image, that of femininity, which has gradually become a universal one. But the myth René Gruau built over decades of illustration is also due to his work for famous Parisian cabarets. While in advertising, Gruau’s artistic production reached its highest point of achievement, the artist excelled in his cabaret projects and approached composition differently, in search of a new movement. His line never became vulgar, yet more dynamic; it shaped as much elegance as in its early hours. Bold colours and vivid contrasts burst, responding to new trends, the intensity of the 70s - 80s.
